Abstract: Modelling of flood waves within the sewage or drainage network is quite complex and causes an interaction between different flow regimes at network junctions. In this paper the shallow water equations are employed to model this type of wave interaction over dry or wet beds with friction terms and bathymetry deviations. The author has already introduced the one-dimensional (1D) and two-dimensional (2D) shallow water model for simulating the free-surface interaction with outflows arisen from a sewage pipe network. The proposed shallow water scheme is solved based on finite volume high-resolution Godunov-type methods. The solver is well-balanced and uses a new type of wave speed based on the combination of exact and approximate Riemann speeds for propagation over nearly dry and dry state. This paper extends the 2D model for simulating the flood propagation within a sewage network. Additionally, a free-surface with outflow interaction is investigated over a complex bed profile. First mathematical equations are presented. Then, the 2D outflow propagation over a dry state is modelled and the numerical results are compared with three-dimensional (3D) Navier-Stokes solver, STAR-CD. Next, the urban flooding situation over an idealized city with underground pipe network propagation is simulated based on the 2D SWEs. Finally, the flood wave propagation within the sewage network is demonstrated again with the SWEs.
