Abstract: The Alishan Forest Railway is one of the most recognized cultural heritages in Taiwan. It plays a vital role in transporting internal tourists and allowing access to Alishan. However, natural slope disasters caused the Alishan Forest Railway to break down numerous times in recent years. The primary method for ensuring the railway’s safety is to build a warning system for slope landslides. The slope unit was applied as the unit of analysis in this study. Using slope units can improve the shortcomings of using grid cells, which provide results that are not easily compared with others in the field. Slope unit data were extracted from each factor with the assistance of a geographic information system (GIS), and were divided into a landslide and non-landslide group. These data were used to build a logistical model for the study area using SPSS statistical software. The model was applied to the whole study area and used to calculate a landslide susceptibility index for each slope unit. A classification error matrix was used to evaluate the accuracy of the present model’s landslide predictions. Furthermore, the map of potential landslides was delineated, which is helpful for managing future landslide disasters.
