Abstract: In this study, two-dimensional (2D) flood simulation was performed by applying source-term method in the shallow water equation which takes the effective rainfall intensity directly into nodes of unstructured grid. For purpose, a study to convert the geographic, hydraulic and hydrologic elements of existing one-dimensional (1D) flood simulation into high dimensional simulation was carried out. In this study, the inundated area of a selected city was simulated for extreme rainfall scenarios and then the assessment of accuracy was performed by comparing the results of 2D simulation with those of 1D simulation under the same conditions. The study area, Uijeongbu city, is a medium size city which has a watershed area of 50㎢ and river length of 15. 86㎞, and the meshes of study area were constructed by unstructured FVM-mesh with 630, 000 elements approximately. As a result, the simulation model constructed by converting the existing 1D simulation model to high dimensional simulation model will be able to predict more accurate inundated area and to reduce the future damage.
