Abstract: The interaction process of water and sediment is studied using SPH. The method modeling the sediment particles is the same as modeling fluid particles. The fluid force is converted to the force between fluid and sand particles considering the density of sand when the interaction between fluid particles and sand particles is calculated. The movement of sediment on the sandy bed at the downstream of dam-break is modeled firstly, and the free surface and distribution of sediment at different time are depicted. Some complicated physical process such as the starting, transport of sediment, and fluid mixing are analyzed. The model is then used to model the deltaic sedimentation morphology and erosion funnel in the front of dam in a typical reservoir. The result is in accord with practical physical phenomena. It is showed that SPH is extremely applicable in modeling the interaction between water and sediment.
