Abstract: The pollution quantitative simulation and integrated assessment of rural non -point sources pollution (RNPSP) are still a big challenge faced by scientists, engineers and local governments. This study focused on building a simple and practical NPSP assessment method, combining the Export Coefficient Model (ECM) and Source Strength Coefficient Method (SSCM), to provide a basis for watershed water pollution treatment and carried out a case study for RNPSP assessment in a basin. The study basin—the Laixi River, locates in Lu county, Sichuan province, China, has an area of 728 km2, the amount of villages is 157, in which rural population is about 85% and water pollution of the river system is ver y serious. In the study, the RNPSP of study area is evaluated with the method combining ECM and SSCM, and the scientific countermeasures for water pollution treatment were proposed according to the assessment result. Meanwhile, the feasibility of the method combining ECM and SSCM is analyzed. The results stated that the method combining ECM and SSCM can be applied to the RNPSP assessment of the regions with sparse data.
