Abstract: In many cases the design of culverts prevents upstream migration of fish because of high flow velocities. One way to reduce the velocity of water within the culvert is to install spoiler baffles. This investigation uses the 3D numerical tool Flow-3D to take a closer look at the influence of the spoiler geometry on the flow field in the culvert. The results indicate that the spoiler baffles can reduce the flow velocities between them dramatically. The choice of the appropriate geometry design depends mainly on the need of the fish on one hand and on the other hand on the claim to increase the flow depth as less as possible.
