Abstract: The propagation of dam-break waves over a mobile bed has been the subject of several recent research works. It has thus gained the role of a benchmark for solid transport models. From a physical point of view, the features of the process lead to the rejection of the hypothesis of immediate adaptation of solid transport to hydrodynamics. From the numerical standpoint, the tracking of water and bed wave fronts requires adequate numerical schemes. In present note a model specifically developed for simulation of fast transients on movable bed is presented and tested against experimental data. The model is derived in a Lagrangian framework and it takes into account the overall dynamics of the sediment transport. The presented example concerns the dam break on an erodible bed with a step. This particular configuration is a difficult trial for numerical simulation. Comparison between experimental data and numerical results is very encouraging and demonstrates the effectiveness of proposed model.
