Abstract: The SWIMER project aims to develop an integrated river basin strategy, coupling hydrologic, climatologic and socio-economic issues, that will optimize the water resources management along the East Route of the South to North Water Diversion project. The analysis starts by modelling the water resources processes of a range of water diversion and conservancy scenarios in the East Route area. The waters within the SWIMER area are characterized through the use of two mathematical models respectively focusing on the planning of the water resources use (Rowas, IWHR) and the management of the diverted waters (ResSim, HEC). The first one elaborates a water balance of all the resources available in the area and estimates the needs from the East Route diversion necessary to minimize the water shortage. The second one analyses the possibility of the network to deliver such a water diversion schedule according to the hydrologic situation and the specific rules governing the reservoirs regulation. The project analyses several scenarios assessing the impact of the East Route diversion under different hydrologic situations
