Abstract: The Plain of Reeds (PoR) is well-known as the typical swamp area in the Mekong Delta with high linkage among floods, ecological systems and human. Recently, inundation regime in the PoR seemed having unprofitable change during last decades as consequences of global climate change, upstream activities, local canalization, and so on. In this study, using quasi 2D physicalbased model in coupling with 100x100m resolution digital elevation model, effects of canalization on inundation and sediment deposition in the PoR was investigated during the flood season in 2001. The simulated results showed that artificial canals reduced peak of inundated water depth, delivered and deposited more suspended sediment in the PoR.
