Flow Characteristics in the Stream by Installing the Sewer Outlet

Abstract: The sewer outlet is generally installed through the bank without considering the increments of water depths and velocities in the streams. In this paper, the experiments for considering the change of flow characteristics such as the water depth and velocity are conducted using the experimental facilities. The analysis are based on the discharge ratio between the main stream and sewer outlet, the approaching angle and the position of sewer outlet. The water depths are decreased about 1~3% and the velocities are a little increased when the sewer outlet is installed in the downstream direction compared to the upstream and/or a right angle. Also, it was indicated the water depth increment is less affected when the distributed discharges at a stream junction inflow through sewer outlets in the upstream and downstream. The results obtained in this paper can be used as a design guideline in the phases of planning and/or basic design for the installation of sewer outlets.
