Abstract: A one dimensional numerical scheme to study Boussinesq equation in transitional waters is considered. The time integration is carried out by means of a predictor-corrector scheme, while the spatial integration is conducted through an hybrid scheme, that uses finite volume method (FVM) for the advective part and finite difference method (FDM) for dispersive terms, bottom slope and flow resistance. In FVM the HLL Riemann solver has been used. The original numerical scheme is extended to the surf zone, introducing a wet and dry Riemann problem. Three experimental tests of regular wave in a wave flume have been considered. The generated waves break creating a plunging, a plunging-collapsing and a collapsing wave. The numerical model has been applied to these experimental tests, reproducing well both wave breaking and run up – run down phenomena. The results are shown and compared with experimental data.
