Abstract: A previous experimental work has studied flow transitions over standard spillway with radial gates and formulas have been developed to compute the transition heads from freesurface to controlled flow (and reverse) with regard to the gate lip position. The purpose of this article is to use these formulas to compute free-surface flow profiles and discharge characteristics. First we remind the two formulas developed by LNHE. Then we compare the free-surface profiles given by the first formula (transition from free-surface to controlled flow) with other existing correlations and with measurements performed on two physical models of french dams (Bort-les-Orgues and Goulours). Finally we use these correlations to compute the discharge at constant gate opening or constant upstream level and compare the results to measurements or older computations.
