Abstract: An analysis of measurements of the water and sediment distribution at the bifurcation of a river for different discharges was made to explain the behavior patterns of the streams. From these patterns it was possible to calculate the input-output balance of sediments, predict the deposit of sediment and explain the ratio variations of liquid discharges. As a conclusion, the need of building banks along several kilometers, or carrying out an important dredging of the deposit material, was suggested.
