Abstract: A helicoidal-ramp type dropshaft with multidirectional inflows, having multi storm water inlets, is effective for reduction of total construction costs. The main theme of our study is hydraulic phenomenon analysis of helicoidal-ramp type dropshafts, which have bidirectional inflows, with hydraulic experiments. We have studied about a particular shape of dropshaft with bidirectional inflows that was applied to actual storm sewers, trying to extend the existing design method of one-way inflow to bidirectional. Initial hydraulic model shapes defined by means of existing design method showed some defects. However we appended additional countermeasures, such as sub vertical guiding plates, as a result, the final hydraulic model shapes, which were experimentally obtained, showed good performance of hydraulic regime, diffusions of waterfall energy and air entrainment.
