Abstract: Since river law has been changed since 1997 in Japan, considering water quality and biological environment into the river improvement works has been announcing. The relationships between invertebrate taxa, land-use categories and river environment were examined by Principal Components Analysis and Cluster Analysis. The spices of invertebrate could not be changed as long as the level of water quality will not be changed greatly. Therefore, the level of water quality determined by the chemical data like (BOD) is not necessary corresponding to that by the distribution patterns of invertebrate taxa. On the other hand, the level of water quality determined by invertebrate taxa could be related to the landuse categories.
