Abstract: River meadows are considered to have extremely high environmental and conservational value. The use of these areas should be avoided wherever possible. Due to the realisation of the new high-speed train line (ICE-railway connection) connecting Koln (Cologne) and Frankfurt, impacts to river meadows could not be avoided. By planning the necessary compensatory and substitutable measures, the goals of the River Sieg development concept could be taken into account and partly implemented as well.
