Abstract: An analytic solution to the mild slope wave equation is derived for long waves propagating over an asymmetric trench of finite width and infinite length. The water depth inside the trench varies in proportion to a power of distance from the deepest point of the trench. The governing equation is described as ordinary differential equation and the coefficients expressed in terms of phase and group velocities are simplified by the using long wave assumption. A power series is used to develop the long wave analytic solution to the mild slope equation. Comparison of the present solution with the numerical solution shows good agreement. The reflection and transmission of normally incident waves are studied.
