Abstract: Levees are the basic hydro-engineering structure to protect landward area from flooding caused by high discharges on the river. Even though levees are similar to small earth dams, they differ from earth dams in the external force conditions. As a levee safety is significantly affected by the flow on the river as well as the stage, it may be unreasonable to analyze the seepage flow through the levee on the basis of the condition free from flow in the channel. Actual physical phenomena including the flow of channel should be reflected in the research in order that the safety of the levee can be analyzed more accurately. The objective of the present study is to investigate the influence of the flow in the channel on the seepage flow. The result of water head was somewhat higher with a flow, and the value was higher between 5 and 10 percent, as compared with the contrary case. This research is expected to ascertain how a flow will affect the resistance to seepage with respect to the structure parallel with a flow, like a levee, as well as is expected to be a preliminary data in researching the resistance to seepage and the safety of slopes.
