Abstract: A numerical method for the solution of the two-dimensional dam-break flow is described. The model, which is based on the Roe’s approximate Riemann solver, is used to solve the 2D shallow water equations on an irregular structured grid. A modified MUSCL technique is combined to preclude the restrictions on the Roe’s scheme duo to bed slope as well as to obtain a second-order accuracy. The wetting and drying process is considered by using an artificial critical depth. The model is verified by comparing the model output with the data of flume experiments.
