Abstract: This paper addresses issues on data quality, processing and uncertainty of digital elevation models for runoff modeling. The quality of commonly used production DEMs is analyzed. Several important topics on extraction of drainage networks and sub-watershed properties are discussed. An up-to-date summary of research works on DEM uncertainties is provided. Perspectives with respect to research in this field and associated problems and limitations are examined.
