Abstract: The Research Project has been performed due to the accord among UERJ/FINEP/BID, and intends to improve suitable works in the pilot basin of Joana river, located in the Rio de Janeiro city, in order to get the fluvial regularization with ecological valorization. As a consequence, there would be an ecological improvement of the ecosystem, with flooding reduction, increasing of water flow magnitude in draughts periods, erosion and sedimentation processes control in the Basin, and other positive effects in the natural ecosystem. The main Project purpose is the study of the Water Flow Spatial Regularization in the Watershed, with the focus on the mitigation effects on flooding peaks and on water table recharge, as well as the sanitary and soil occupation aspects. It is also indicated the general measures and kinds of corrective works to be studied and implemented on the Watershed, with an holistic and ecological approach, with the purpose of the river water flow regularization and the preservation of the natural ecosystem according to the concept of the Sustainable Development of man in the occupation of watersheds, preservation of fresh water source in the nature and suitable flood control.
