Abstract: Wave loads and pressures have significant influence on the safety and serviceability of coastal and offshore structures. Generally, most of the structural members used in offshore production platforms or coastal structures are cylindrical in geometry. A number of papers were published on wave slamming on cylindrical members. In contrast, not much research has been reported on horizontal flat bottomed structures. In the present work, this area is explored with wave flume studies. This paper discusses the results of experimental investigations on regular wave slamming of horizontal structural members. Tests were conducted by considering the clearance between the horizontal plate and still water level with different wave frequencies. The results obtained from time domain analysis of regular wave impact pressure on the model are discussed. The effect on reflection and transmission from the model due to the variation of clearance are also discussed.
