Abstract: There are many factors affecting local scour at structure in river. These factors are indefinite parameters. The traditional design method cannot reflect uncertainty of local scour depth. There are great distinction between selective value and real value of parameters, and the calculated value of scour depth does not meet expected safety degree. In this paper, the uncertainty of parameter value and the distortion between design value and real value are analyzed. Based on the present formulas and reliability theory, the mathematical model for analyzing the probability of abutment foundation depth was established. The method of solving the equation through Monte Carlo method was introduced. By the method of the paper, the reliability of structure foundation depth can be quantitatively calculated, and the effect of hydraulic conditions on foundation failure also can be discussed.
