Abstract: Using σ-coordinate transformation to fit the riverbed boundary, and SIMPLE algorithm, an unsteady vertical-2D model is developed. The model can be used for long-term simulation of flow and suspended material transportation in large water body such as reservoirs. In the model, the VOF is adopted to track the moving free surface that assumption of rigid-lid or hydrostatic pressure is avoided. Numerical results of schematic and natural reservoirs show that distributions of velocity and suspended material concentration agree well with the measured data.
