Abstract: This study shows results of a regulatory monitoring which is to mainly verify the effects of adopted trees on the Han River flood plain on the flow resistance and re-vegetation. Outcomes of this study can be used practically as basic resources to select suitable tall trees on the flood plain and an effective management for the flood plain. The study area is the Han River flood plain where the flood velocity is usually less than 1. 5 m/s. The monitoring continued from April 2002 to October 2004. The flora and fauna were monitored along with the hydraulic condition. According to the monitoring result, Zelkova serrata and Sophora japonica grow poor; on the contrary, Ulmus davidiana var. Japonica and Salix koreensis grow rather well. This result shows that it is very important to select suitable tree species for adopting in the flood plain both for flood control of the river and re-vegetation of the flood plain.
