Abstract: Youjiang River, a river running through hilly area, features small runoff and low sediment load but large monthly and yearly variations. Its peak water discharge does not occur simultaneously with its peak silt concentration. This is a combination of features of mountainous and plain rivers. Controlled by the river channel nodes along the river valley, sedimentation of the riverbed is limited between the two adjacent nodes. Based on observations of runoff, sediment transport and river channel morphology at Baise Gauge Station and the downstream reaches of Naji Dam, analysis was made on waterway characteristics and fluvial processes in a 84km section of the river channel between Naji and Yuliang of the Youjiang River. Meanwhile possible trend of fluvial processes downstream of Naji dam was predicted in the analysis. After the completion of Naji Navigation Project, the river channel development downstream the dam will generally remain the same as for natural conditions and no systematic scour will occur.
