Abstract: This paper reviews the previous researches on transport rate in Friendship Harbor. A formula, which mainly regards the suspended load in the surf beat zone, is derived for longshore transport rate according dimension analysis and energy balance principle of sediment transport. In this formula, transport rate is in relation to the wave energy. Its coefficients are influenced by many factors, such as longshore current, breaking wave type, sediment size, etc. According to the analysis and calculation, the average transport rate near Friendship Harbor is about 100×10 4 m 3 ·yr -1, in direction from north to south. The result coincides well with the sediment aggradation upstream the breakwater zone after the construction of harbor.
