Abstract: This paper presents an application of satellite cloud atlas information in hydrological modelling by using various methods, including the wavelet analysis. Information extracted directly from the pixel element and the satellite cloud atlas was transformed into basic data needed for hydrology model calculation. It was found out that: (1) The satellite cloud atlas and remote sensing information can be used as one of the feasible methods to obtain ground topography. The method was found to be better than that using only the limited data of meteorological phenomena surveys in the consideration of topography variation. The data resolutions varies with that of the remote sensing pictures. Though the satellite cloud atlas resolution used in this paper was not high, but the cloud atlas still can reflect the relief of ground topography. (2) Because the resolution of the remote sensing picture was fairly small, the data is only the preliminary result to some extent and need to be corrected through comparison with other results.
