Abstract: The technology of digital relief map, as a result of computer’s application in geography, is improved rapidly. The digital relief map includes much information and its precision is high. So it can describe the landform intuitively and exactly. Furthermore, for the advantage of computer data’s easy operating property, the digital relief map can be expediently used to calculate and analyze the landform’s characteristics This paper describes a method of creating digital relief map and the map’s application in the computation of depositing quantity and depositing distribution. For the problem of disagreement between the data format that is required in commercial software for cartography and that is obtained in the original contour maps, a method is put forward to solve it. Besides, some techniques in writing pertinent computer programs are explained, and the computing method used here has been proved to be feasible in engineering instance of ZPT reservoir.
