Abstract: Taihu Basin, located at the south of Yangtze River Delta, is one of the most developed areas of China, where serious flood disasters and waterlogs often happen. n order to perfect the basin flood control system for defending basin floodwater under different typical rainfalls, a new round Taihu Basin Flood Control Planning was carried out, aiming at promoting the high speed development of social economy. The general idea, overall layout of basin flood control components, non-engineering measures and comprehensive utilization of the new round Taihu Basin Flood Control Planning is presented, based on analysis of main reasons of flood disaster and waterlog and characteristics of recent basin flood disasters. he new round planning takes integrative account of basin flood control, water resource allocation, water environment protect, and drainage of cities, etc. The overall layouts of flood control engineering are suggested, which provides an important foundation for the construction of flood control in the Taihu Basin.
