Abstract: Because of hydrological and geologic conditions, power stations at many projects hydro with low head are unavoidably located at the convex banks of rivers. On the Yellow River, a new power station, Shapotou, has recently been built up with the operational head of 10.4 m. According to the topographic and geologic conditions, the dam is located at the end ofa river bend, and the power station is located at the convex bank of the river. Bend flow and its induced sedimentation are key problems to the project. In this test model, the experimental theory and technology of hyperconcentrated flow are applied to study the features of flow and sedimentation in the dam zone and the unfavorable influence of bend flow on the project operation is exposed as well. In view of the sediment problem of a power station at convex bank with low head, some viewpoints and technical measures are put forward, which fundamentally solve the sediment problem of the power station at convex bank.
