Abstract: The geometry and size distribution of ice-blocks have essential influence on overall properties of pressure ice ridges such as porosity. But only average values of lengths, thicknesses and sometimes widths or ratios between them are reported in literature. It is clear that absolute values of ice block geometries will vary from ridge to ridge due to different thicknesses of parent ice sheet for this reason the current study examines a distribution of the ratio length over thickness (l/h). The distribution is studied based on ice block size data from the Barents Sea, Arctic Ocean, Beaufort Sea and North Sakhalin area. This paper shows that gradations of l h ratio are the same independent of geographical location when number of measurements is above one hundred. This result is of importance for both model scale tests and numerical modelling of pressure ice ridges.
