Abstract: A stone masonry method with stacking boulders as a fish passage was proposed at the left side of Isaki weir, Murasaki River, City of Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan. The flow condition at the fish passage during flood stages and the stability of stacking boulders were tested experimentally on the basis of the proposed stone masonry design. The role on the masonry of boulders from a view point of the upstream migration of multiaquatic animals in normal stages and the flood control, was confirmed from both field and experimental investigations. Possibility of the migration routes for the upstream migration has been discussion based on the observation of the flow conditions corresponding to dry and high-water seasons. From field observations of the proposed fish passage, it was confirmed that swimming river fishes could migrate upstream through the fish passage.
