Abstract: Flow–ecology relationships, in terms of ecological response functions, between indicators of hydrological alteration and the fish and macroinvertebrate communities were explored in the Jucar River Basin district (eastern Iberian Peninsula), within the conceptual framework of the Ecological Limits of Hydrological Alteration (ELOHA). These relationships were modelled using shape–constrained Generalized Additive Models (GAMs), from a database comprising these biological communities and the altered and naturalized flow time series (nearnatural) of 15 consecutive years.
