Abstract: As an important component of reservoir environment, the physicochemical properties of sediment were crucial to water quality. To grasp the pollution status of the Biliuhe Reservoir sediment, sediment samples were collected, and fundamental analyses including pH, diameter, organic matter and iron, manganese, copper, cadmium, lead and zinc were conducted in the present study. Spatial variation of reservoir sediment indexes were studied by analyzing and reasoning the change law sediment samples in different areas of different layers. The results showed that pH of the samples gradually decreased from the deepest layer (50-60cm) to the surface layer (4-6cm), which might lead to the increased free iron of heavy metals in sediments, released them into water bodies and affected water quality safety. The soil types of samples were mainly composed by loam, and the different types of samples in different layers had regional characteristics and were closely related to their location distribution. The content of organic matter and heavy metals of the surface samples (4-6cm) were generally higher than the other layers (14-16cm, 25-30cm, 50-60cm), and high-content heavy metals were mainly concentrated near the river channel. Comprehensively, the vertical change trends of each index in the sediment samples from the Dapu area were deteriorating from the deepest to surface sediment, which was a potential threat to the reservoir water quality, so, the reservoir should be managed intensively and further investigation and research is also needed.
