Conservation of the River and Its Cultural Value in the Environmental Treaties

Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to consider cultural value for effective wetland management, including rivers, from the perspective of international environmental law. The paper focuses on what is the criteria on internationally important wetlands, why the idea of cultural value has been required to be considered under the Ramsar Convention and how such value influences for effective wetland conservation. In conclusion, this paper pointed out three points for effective river management, such as necessity of increase in the number of Ramsar Sites, building cooperative relations with NGOs, utilization and renewal of guidelines.
