Abstract: Unlike traditional pavement materials like concrete and asphalt, permeable block pavement systems have the ability to infiltrate water through the voids that are designed along the perimeter of the imperviou s blocks [1]. The flow through the voids dictate the hydraulic capacity of the system [1,2, 3]. Thus, it is reasonable to correlate the permeability of joint and bedding sands to the equivalent permeability of the whole block pavement system. Using Darcy’s law, this paper proposes a theoretical relation for predicting the equivalent vertical permeability of block pavement systems using the permeability characteristics of joint and bedding sands.
