Abstract: To characterize the bird communities that utilize and rely on Japan’s estuary system, TWINSPAN was utilized to characterize estuaries. In accordance with estuary classification using bird populations, in the estuary areas were divided into 12 groups. Results of this investigation indicated that the primary aspects affecting these bird communities can be organized according to certain characteristics, first were the estuary habitat as a sandy beach estuary or tidal estuary, second was the migration route, and third were the type of estuary vegetation, and the surrounding land’s usage.
