Abstract: The present research makes a description of the currents of flow present in a bend of a meandering river, with the additional variant of having implemented a set of bendway weirs (permeable and semipermeable) as a protection measure against the continuous erosion that originates in its right edge. Likewise, and considering that a natural water flow (such as the river of study) leads not only to water but also to a solid flow, it is also necessary to understand the fundamentals of sediment transport. With this base, and through a rigorous fieldwork and analysis work, we seek to describing the velocity distribution (direction and magnitudes) in La Pastora area (upstream, between and downstream of the breakwaters), comparing the bathymetries before and after the implementation of the weirs and quantifying the transport of sediments in the analysis section of the Madre de Dios River by the characterization of the banks and sediments transported by the river (bottom and suspension) in the study area; all of them with the principal objective of verify the efficiency and effectiveness of the bendway weirs.
