Abstract: According to field experiments, the paper proposes a remote automatic monitoring system of ice, water information and images in Yellow River. The system can continuously and automatically monitor many parameters including ice thickness, water level under ice, air temperature, ice temperature and water temperature, and get the ice images, drift ice velocity and the density of drift ice. In addition, the experiments for emergency aerial photogrammetry monitoring by unmanned aerial vehicle and ice thickness detecting by radar are also performed. The system can continuously carry out spot monitoring the process of freeze up and ice melting because of the technical features of ice thickness sensors and the monitoring system. The automatic measurement and emergency monitoring of the process of freeze up in Yellow River can be achieved by the continuous monitoring of river freeze up and working with remote images monitoring, radar detecting, and aerial photogrammetry by UAV after selecting proper monitoring point.
