Abstract: Observations of level ice and rubble interactions on the Confederation Bridge are used to develop a new model for calculating ice actions on conical structures. The model uses a method of slices to determine non-linear rubble profiles for analysis. Rubble actions are coupled to the ice sheet breaking through beam on elastic foundation calculations. Load panel data is analysed to determine characteristics of the flexural failure interactions. Rubble and ice sheet behaviour are coupled. Results are compared to measured loads.
