Abstract: In this work, the Chaac data processing software for datasets retrieved by the OTT Parsivel2 laser-based measured sensor is presented. OTT Parsivel2 is a high temporal resolution optical laser disdrometer that detects different types of precipitation and different drops diameter sizes and fall velocities. The device generates a significant amount of data that must be processed and analyzed in a simple and efficient way, so that it was necessary to develop a tool able to carry out these tasks. The Chaac software consists of a friendly graphical user interface written in Matlab that contains a set of tools for statistical analysis of rainfall and other variables measured by the disdrometer. Chaac allows the fit of functional relationships between variables, storm spectrum visualization and analysis, correlogram generation and storm intensity inter-comparison, among others. This work demonstrates that Chaac is a useful tool for engineers and scientists working with high-resolution precipitation datasets derived from optical disdrometers.
