Abstract: Ice-resisting offshore structures to be constructed in the Arctic seas will be affected by the action of drifting ice formations. As a result, the supporting part of these structures will be affected by intensive ice forces that cause abrasion on the ice-structure contact area and create high stresses within the structure and in the soil base. This paper addresses special facilities, which may be fixed on floating or bottom founded offshore structures to reduce the ice forces. Results of an experimental research program are provided.
