Abstract: An artificial island constructed in the Kashagan East area of the North Caspian Sea was subjected to ice movement from 18:00 January 30 to 02:45 January 31. During this period there were three distinct ice movements occurred causing significant ice pile-up on, and away from the island slopes. An analysis of the ice movements and environmental conditions during the event are examined and observations of rubble formation, ride-up, and rafted ice are presented.
