Abstract: In early August, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released the Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) of its Working Group I on the physical science basis of climate change. The report is a stark warning of the consequences under some potential future scenarios, which prompted the United Nations General Secretary António Guterres to tweet that “the evidence is irrefutable: greenhouse gas emissions are choking our planet and placing billions of people in danger”. This adds to the urgency to expand the use of all forms of renewable energy, including offshore energy production which is the theme of this issue of Hydrolink. In addition to four articles on this subject, this issue includes also a set of notes by Roberto Ranzi, Chair of IAHR technical committee on Climate Change Adaptation, summarizing some key points from the recent IPCC report.
