Abstract: The subject of the present study is the assessment of aquifer vulnerability to nitrate pollution using the DRASTIC method in the rural and coastal Almyros basin, in Magnesia, Greece. Unsustainable groundwater abstractions for irrigation have degraded the quality and quantity of the Almyros aquifer system. The Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) of Multicriteria Analysis has been used for the modification of the typical DRASTIC index based on the statistics of experts’ responses to questionnaires on the influence of hydrological, hydrogeological, and other parameters (Lepuri, 2021).
