Abstract: Flood disasters are considered catastrophic events that can affect human life along with their economic and environmental effects. In recent years, the frequency of flooding has been increasing with the effect of climate change. Various software and methods are used in the studies carried out to determine the precautions to be taken for a probable flood and to reduce the potential hazard. Available software programs offer 1D, 2D, and 1D/2D coupled solutions to identify probable inundation areas and corresponding flood hazards. In this study, a study area from northern Turkey was selected in order to apply both direct 2D and 1D/2D combined hydraulic modelling approaches with HEC-RAS, and their effects on hazard quantification were evaluated. The results show that the flood inundation area resulting from the 1D/2D coupled model is wider than the direct 2D solution.
