Abstract: In this study, turbulent statistics of flow on gravel beds are described by using the laws of turbulence in conjunction with the Double-Averaging Methodology (DAM). For this purpose, an experimental campaign in a laboratory flume was performed. Applying the Taylor frozen-in hypothesis to the Kolmogorov 4/5-law for the spatial increments of the streamwise velocity, it is revealed the existence of the well-known inertial subrange and an accurate Turbulent Kinetic Energy (TKE) dissipation rate ε assessment is obtained. The present work shows the validity of this statistical methodology (Kolmogorov’s 4/5-law) to study the turbulence characteristics at small scales.
