Scaling Issues in Physical Modelling of Spillway Aerators

Abstract: Subjected to sub-atmospheric pressure, the two-phase aerator flow does not obey the Froude law of similitude. This paper discusses the air-flow upscaling from model to prototype. If the water flow velocity in the model exceeds 6.5‒7.5 m/s, the model results can be directly upscaled to prototype. Otherwise, the prototype air-flow rate is significantly underestimated.
