Abstract: Recently, nature-oriented river works in Japan have been improved through many case studies. But, the ecological monitoring after the river works is so far insufficient. In this respect, the species diversity of biota, particularly that of benthic animals and fishes, is considered suitable as an indicator for evaluationg the reasonability of the river works.
